9 -11th Century Stone Carvings

The Stone Carvings were found during work on the spire in 1827, and depict figures from the monastic and university life of Lismore. The carvings have blessings on and prayers for hermits, ecclesiastics, Abbots and Bishops of the 9th and 10th centuries, including SUIBNE M CONHUIDIR ( hermit and later Abbot of Lismore who died in 854).
